Why Do You Need a Properly Equipped Kit?
A complete first aid kit is the first line of defense in any accident. It's not enough to simply have one; it must be properly equipped, regularly checked, and easily accessible. Legislation requires every workplace to have a first aid kit.
Basic Equipment (Essentials)
- Disposable gloves (latex or nitrile): At least 4 pairs
- Sterile gauze pads in various sizes
- Elastic bandages: 5 cm and 10 cm widths
- Adhesive bandages (plasters) in various sizes
- Antiseptic solution (e.g., Betadine) or antiseptic wipes
- Scissors with rounded tips
- Tweezers
- Adhesive tape
- Triangular bandages: For arm slings or as pressure bandages
- Thermometer
Bleeding Control Equipment
- Pressure bandages (Israeli bandage)
- Hemostatic dressings (for high-risk environments)
- Tourniquet (CAT): Essential for industrial workplaces
Protection Equipment
- CPR pocket mask: For safe rescue breaths
- Protective goggles or face shield
- Emergency thermal blanket
Medications and Consumables
- Saline solution for wound cleaning or eye washing
- Instant cold packs
- Burn cream
Workplace Kit: Additional Requirements
Depending on your industry, you may also need:
- Cervical collar (construction sites, sports facilities)
- SAM splints for immobilization
- Eye wash station (chemical laboratories)
- AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Kit Maintenance
- Check expiration dates every 3 months
- Replace items immediately after use
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Make sure everyone knows where it's located
